This new very powerful BMW has an extremely big silencer and not without reason.
Because of the high performance output, lean mixture and the catalyzer, the exhaust gasses will get the original silencer red hot.
Sound is also not at its best because of the reflection damping technique, which always produces a ‘metallic’ and very muted original sound.

To design a silencer for this model was a real challenge and that’s why it took us longer than normal to find the perfect solution.
First we made what everyone else did; a single oval silencer, but after an endurance test we came to the conclusion that this wasn’t the best option.

The damping material wears out too quickly and the silencer is very loud, and gets even louder when the damping material wears out, not to mention the loss in torque & power gain.
Although we use the worlds best damping materials, these are not resistant enough in our opinion to temper the K1200 in this set-up.

That’s why we re-started the development and made various other options.
The most important thing was to create more internal volume; this was needed for three reasons;

1.  To maximize the flow and improve performance and torque
2.  To improve the durability of the damping material
3.  To get the noise down in such a way it doesn’t affect the performance

A big silencer wasn’t an option; you would have the same look as the original but with no noticeable performance gain or sound improvement.

So we came up with something completely new:
Our solution is a new silencer system that uses two silencers instead of one.
Two oval silencers have enough volume and if these are placed on their side, there is enough ground clearance and also space to fit the original hard luggage cases.
By using the dB eaters the sound level is at a level to pass Ec noise tests and without the dB eaters the K produces a beautiful dark rumble.
Because of the absorption damping method the sound is much deeper and darker as original but doesn’t exceed noise limits.
The performance had an increase of about 3,5 Hp on top of the power increase of a single oval!

Here’s the Dyno graph of our test bike:

BMW K1200S Stock
Bos double oval Ec appr.
Bos double oval open
Max power gain
151.9 Hp @ 9312 rpm
154.9 Hp @ 9434 rpm
159.6 Hp @ 9448 rpm
7.7 Hp
135 Nm @ 7548 rpm
136 Nm @ 7485 rpm
139 Nm @ 7584 rpm
4 Nm

Some other options:
Two oval silencers placed normally under each other, this was no option because you’ll loose ground clearance.
Two small round ones weren’t an option because these have less volume as the ovals and just look too simple on such a high tech bike.
A silencer on each side of the bike is not possible because you miss the mounting point on the left side and mounting under seat is impossible because there is no space to put the silencers.
Our conclusion is that our system delivers the maximum possible power and torque with legal noise and is more durable than systems with just one silencer.

Additional technical information:
Our system is Ec approved but can be changed to sport by removing the dB eaters.
It can be used with the original hard luggage cases and has the same ground clearance as original.
All the parts are made of high polished stainless steel and the silencers are mounted on a special aluminium bracket instead of a mounting strap.
The silencers will be available in aluminium and carbon; a thin 0,5mm stainless steel sleeve protects the carbon.
The system fits on the K1200s and R models and can be placed without any modification to the bike; it runs excellent on the stock setting of the motronic.
Our adapter comes without a catalyzer but at this moment we are developing an adapter with a catalyzer, but this isn’t necessary for the bikes performance.

As soon we know the exact prices and when these systems are available we will let this know and put the pricing information on our web site.
